I love Menards. I don’t know why but I love strolling through the store and finding all sorts of things. From cleaning supplies to random latches and locks, lumber, outdoor items of course and then there’s the food aisle. You heard me correct…we regularly buy things like Salt Water Taffy and certain kinds of chips at our local Menards. If you’re not from here it’s a hardware/home improvement store so not your average place to shop for grocery items.
On our latest outing we hit up the kitchen/dinnerware aisle. I was looking for some shallow crème brûlée dishes…I did not find them there (but I DID find them at our next stop) but as we were perusing the kitchen appliances and bakeware this end cap of glasses caught my eye. Over the years we’ve lost, broken, thrown out many of our drinking glasses and I was taken back by how pretty these glasses on this end cap were. I asked Super if he thought we should grab some…and at the price of $2.50/ea it seemed like a no brainer. So I grabbed one of each color and then decided that I might instantly regret giving these to my children to use but instead they may make better decorative candle holders. Super actually suggested I text our favorite candle maker and let her know about these gorgeous and affordable vessels. Wouldn’t a hand poured pillar candle be just gorgeous in here?

Long story short this set of 6 glasses came home with us and I immediately put them in rainbow order and tried out my electronic tea lights in them.
What can I say except.
I. Love. These. Glasses.

I have plans to make a long, wooden candle holders/centerpiece this spring but for now it was beautiful to have these colorful pieces of glass in and around all our Love Heart (Valentines) Day decorations.
Bonus is that I use these fantastic remote control tealights. What I like about them is that you can turn them on with the remote and click 4, 6 or 8 hours, in addition to just on and off. Not only do the candles automatically turn off in the allotted time BUT they will also continue to turn on at the same time daily. So I don’t have to think about turning them on or off! Or burning down my house. BONUS! My only negative about these is that after a few weeks the batteries do need to be replaced. Do they make rechargeable button batteries??

I mean…how cute, colorful and JOYful is this? It made not just me but our whole family smile when we’d notice them all coming on in the dark evenings of our snowless February here in Chicago (okay okay we DID get a little snow last week…but still)

And because I know you’re all DYING to know if I did indeed make Crème Brûlée… I did and it was fantastic! I highly recommend Sally’s Baking Addiction for an easy to follow and absolutely delicious recipe.

Where are some of the weird places you find joy? (Keep it clean!LOL)
