We’re just about in full Christmas chaos mode here.  After a lot of debate we decided to put the tree up sans gate…I’ll let you know how that ends in a few days…Bubba is (rightfully so) enamored with the lights so I’m not sure we will even do any actual ornaments. It is pretty fun to see him and his sister get excited about the magic of the season…now we just need some SNOW!
Back to this week’s challenge.  I have to be careful about what I share since I am doing some Christmas sewing but this weeks challenge sort of came up when I wanted to get a gift for P’s preschool teacher.  I was going to get her a small gift card but then Patterns for Pirates started their, Holiday Freebies and the Zippered Pocket Infinity Scarf peaked my interest.  (BTW her sister’s page, Made for Mermaids also does holiday freebies…check them out!)
I already have an infinity scarf I made a few years ago and I love it in the winter.  Mine is huge compared to the size they recommend in the tutorial but I think I am going to take mine apart and add a zippered pocket, and then make a hat to match the scarf…but I digress.  I ran to JoAnn’s and grabbed some Snuggle Flannel fabric.  It’s usually on killer sale from Thanksgiving thru the holidays.  I won’t walk you thru the project since the girls at P4P already did that and you really should check out their site and Facebook group.  But here are the pictures of the finished product.
I will add that I pre-washed my flannel and bought some extra.  I know flannel can shrink and I didn’t want to be dealing with any of that.  Also, by pre-washing I already started getting the flannel “worn in” and softer.  My only other tip is take the time to run the cut edges (where the nice fabric counter lady cut your yardage from the bolt) thru your serger or with a zigzag stitch on your sewing machine.  Nothing sucks more that getting ready to start a project and having to untangle frayed edges from each other, or having to cut off more of your fabric just to get started.
I was concerned that since her teacher will be opening this away from us that she wouldn’t notice the main feature of this scarf, THE POCKET! So I whipped up two types of tags that I could print and attach to the zipper pull that would make it pretty obvious. AND…drumroll……I have shared those files here!! I have included a PDF of each design, simply open and print, there are crop marks or cut lines where applicable and I have included the SVG file so you can print, cut, tweak, whatever, on your favorite die cutting machine! The snowflake tag is approx. 2.5″ x 4″ and the wreath is 4″x 4″.

Okay, open the panel on the left of acrobat…and click the layers panel and make sure that only “Text Outlines” is clicked…I have several sizes and when I distilled the file it took all the layers…in the meantime I will try and reload the file without those extra layers!

I’m Mary Jo…

…but you can call me WONDER! I’m a professional musician, maker and mom, and have been described as “bringer of rainbows”!! (I’ll happily take that description.) Here you can learn from my mistakes from everything on the stage to my home maker studio and of course raising two kids this day and age!
